Low Carbon Plastic Free Refill Stations for Vegan Laundry Detergent Sheets on College Campuses and Apartment Buildings. The first plastic-free refill station for sustainable laundry detergent sheets in the world! Demand an affordable and sustainable zero waste infrastructure where you live! Our laundry detergent sheets are biodegradable, cruelty-free, vegan and sourced from all plant derived ingredients. The eco-friendly laundry detergent sheets have no harsh chemicals, no SLS/SLES, no phosphates, no harmful dyes, no optical brightness, no bleach and no animal testing! Our unscented sheets are Hypoallergenic! We conducted a life cycle assessment with Climate Scientists from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory to determine how much carbon is emitted at every stage of our product. We found that is 2 out of 3 people refill our laundry detergent sheets instead of buying pods or liquid detergent then we could achieve a 45% carbon reduction pathway in the category of laundry detergent. If every industry achieved a 45% carbon reduction then we could achieve the IPCC goals of 1.5°C.

Eco-conscious behaviors and products are typically not as accessible to lower income communities and persons, often requiring higher levels of financial investment. Examples of sustainable designs and products like central heating/cooling systems, electric vehicles, organic produce and products, installing solar panels require additional income, since they are often sold at a higher price point—perpetuating eco-classism and making it inaccessible to participate in climate solutions without high levels of capital. Generation Conscious has made their plastic-free refill stations and laundry detergent sheets specifically to combat this eco-classism in sustainability, creating products well-below the price point of other sustainable brands and products.

We will install refill stations that distribute toxic-free, hypoallergenic, and biodegradable laundry products. Our closed-loop system that allows all people to enjoy affordable hygiene products that are sustainable, requiring 97% less water and 95% less carbon to produce and distribute, and that are package, plastic-free and therefore zero-waste!

These products and their system of distribution will benefit all people by allowing an accessible access point to sustainable, eco-conscious behaviors—promoting hygiene security and supporting environmental justice communities by reducing waste! Our work will promote the health and well-being of not only the people but also will provide our communities with the opportunity to promote sustainability and environmental justice within our institutions and surrounding communities.

Our objective is

1. Eliminate hygiene insecurity and thus any financial burden of purchasing hygiene products for low-income students on campus, while generating the opportunity for low-income students to engage with eco-conscious products and practices without economic barriers.
2. Reduce plastic and water-waste as well as the carbon footprint at Universities caused by the use of hygiene products by students on campus.
3. Implement a closed-loop system on campus that promotes zero-waste, regenerative consumer behavior for all students and inspires student disengagement from extractive, linear modes of production
   a. Disengagement from harmful structures of product distribution that pollute ecosystems and Black and Brown communities.

The multi-dimensional nature of Generation Conscious’ product designs and mission encourages interdisciplinary collaboration and conversation by integrating the necessities of sustainability with attention to racial justice.
